Ethnography: the Smokers
One day, inside the bus I spied a group of smokers standing outside a building smoking. It dawned on me that smokers are like a modern tribe nowadays: standing together, outside, doing the same thing.
I also thought, that at least in the western world, their numbers are steadily decreasing and maybe headed for extinction.
So like the photographers of the Native Americans in the old west, I decided to capture there images before they disappear. Like those photographers, I wanted my smokers to be as still as possible, in the style these historic images.
And so: My subjects had to come to my studio and smoke!
